The instructor, Joyce Gauthier (aka The Sailing Massage Therapist)is a New York and North Carolina Licensed Massage Therapist. She grew up in New Hartford, New York and earned her massage therapy certification from the Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy in Albany, New York in 2010. Joyce was a solo practitioner until 2017, focusing on medical massage. While she loved the work, private practice can be lonely, and she desired more interaction with fellow massage therapists. In 2016, she completed a 200-hour yoga teacher certification course lead by Ashley Colloton. Since then, when she’s not sailing in warmer climates during the winter, she has been teaching yoga, business for massage therapists, and massage technique.
Joyce looks forward to the next chapter in her massage career – educating massage therapists in medical massage technique, self-care, and business strategies. Her love for massage runs deep, and she can’t wait to branch out of the treatment room and work with lots of people at once!
Different Learning Styles
Each class is designed with the massage therapist in mind. Everyone learns differently, and Joyce understands that. Auditory learners, visual learners, kinesthetic learners, and tactile learners will experience visual aids, hands-on practice, lecture, and handouts, with ample opportunities to give and receive the bodywork techniques. There will be large group lectures, small group discussions, and time to reflect on your own. Joyce gets it – massage therapists need time to reflect and recharge. Not only will you leave her classes with new ideas and techniques, but you will leave feeling positive and inspired – not drained from a long day of being poked and prodded.
Live, Hands-On Courses
Online courses are great and can be a convenient option, but we are massage therapists – we should be taking hands-on classes. There are so few of them out there. Take advantage of the opportunity now, while Joyce is in your town.
Go to a retreat and get CEUs
Not looking for a technique class? Then try one of Joyce’s self-care offerings. Enjoy a day of yoga and bodywork. Relax, explore, and recharge.
But wait, there’s more! Did someone say free food?
Lunch is included with each course. Coffee, tea, and snacks are available throughout the day. Dietary restrictions and allergies can be accommodated. Just let me know!
St. Margaret’s Ecumenical & Retreat Center
The space lends itself perfectly to the needs of the classes. Unlike other massage courses, students will not be in a large convention room, but we will utilize the intimate spaces that St. Margaret’s House offers. The great room is perfect for housing massage tables for practice. The library creates an intimate space for lecture. The meditation room and living room will be comfortable for small group discussions or for students that enjoy privacy while practicing. The grounds will be in all their glory, showing off the colors of fall. During breaks and lunch, students are welcome to hike the trails or sit outside to enjoy fresh air.
If you need a place to stay, there are affordable single and double occupancy rooms available onsite.
What are you waiting for?
Don’t be left scrambling for CEUs at the last minute. New York State requires massage therapists to earn 36 CEUs every three years. Each class is limited to 16 students (12 for the retreat). Sign up now before the classes are full!
